Since the early '90s, drummer Gregg Bendian has distinguished himself as an adventurous and accomplished player-composer through his sideman work with the likes of Derek Bailey, Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman, John Zorn, Peter Brötzmann and Pat Metheny while also leading his own Interzone Quartet and Trio Pianissimo. His most recent recording is the startlingly virtuosic solo drum project.

An album of dark and subtle beauty – and still one of our favorite Miles Davis albums of all time! The set's not as earth-shattering as some of Davis' other work of the 60s, but that's why we like it so much – because the emerging genius of the group with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, CD.

Building on the deep interaction of Balance—originally released in but recently reissued by TrueMedia JazzWorks—Change finds Trio Pianissimo continuing to explore, evolve, and integrate percussionist/composer Gregg Bendian's diverse musical interests. While the piano trio represents Bendian's most intimate setting to date, that doesn't mean that Change operates in conventional terms.

Derek Bailey is a preeminent experimental guitarist and theoretician. To this project he brings impeccable credentials, chops and percussionist Gregg Bendian. Pat Metheny needs no introduction; in recent years, he has proven that he's capable of moving beyond the bubble gum fusion that your parents enjoyed in the '80s.

This matchup was certainly an unlikely one. The innovative avant-garde guitarist Derek Bailey and the popular and influential Pat Metheny were probably not automatically destined to collaborate. But at the Knitting Factory for a few nights in December with both Gregg Bendian and Paul Wertico on drums and percussion, Bailey and Metheny joined as one titanic force.

May 20,  · One of my favorites is Gregg Bendian's "Interzone," which features Nels Cline (Wilco) and Mark Dresser, and Alex Cline. Of course, it's nothing like what we hear here. I would say that the music on "Sign of 4" is most in keeping with other works by Derek Bailey and maybe Paul Wertico/5(29).
